Stretch films Guidelines

Stretch films are commonly used to wrap around items to secure them together or to a pallet for transportation or storage. These stretch films are often made of linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) or other similar materials. These stretch films come in many variants such as Hand Stretch Films, Pre-stretched Films, Coloured Stretch Films and many more.

The stretchability of these stretch films allows them to be stretched and wrapped around items tightly, providing a secure hold without the need for adhesives. Stretch films are used in various industries for packaging, shipping, and storage to protect goods from moisture, dust, and securely wrapped and protected during transportation or storage. The versatility and effectiveness of stretch films makes a popular choice for packaging in many different transportations or industries.

Preparing an arrangement of your items you want to wrap using stretch films on a pallet or a stable surface, ensuring they are stacked evenly and securely. This will allow for firm and evenly compact stacked items as well as providing additional stability for the items. Selecting the right stretch film that is suitable for your application, considering factors of the level of protection required such as the type of items, weight, and the environment in which the film will be used. These can vary on the use of stretch films over heavy to light weight carton boxes or any containers that are suitable for certain types of stretch films.

In the early stage of wrapping, it must be started from the bottom of the packaging or items and work your way up to the very top of the packaging. Secure the stretch film to the pallet or item, then begin wrapping the stretch film around the base several times to create a stable foundation. Stretch the stretch film by applying consistent tension as you wrap it around the items to create a tight and secure wrap. Pull the film slightly to apply tension, but be careful not to overstretch it, as this can cause the stretch films to tear or lose their effectiveness and could no longer hold the load properly further increasing the risk of stretch film breakage and affects the packaging or items against potential hazards.

Ensure that each layer of the stretch films overlaps the previous one by about 50% or more to provide full coverage and strength. This will increase its reliability in protecting the items from various hazards such as scratching against any surface during transportation. Pay special attention to wrapping the corners and edges of the items, as these areas are more prone to damage and require extra care. It is advisable to use extra stretch film or reinforce these areas with additional layers to provide more protection and lower the risk of damage.

Once you have wrapped the items completely, secure the end of the stretch films by tucking it under a previous layer or using a stretch film cutter to trim and seal the end. This will prevent the stretch films from being removed unintentionally during the process of transportation or storage. After wrapping, inspect the wrapping of the stretch films and be aware of any tears or punctures, loose end or trails, seals, and joints to ensure that it is secure and it’s best to document for keeping records of the wrapping inspection, including any issues identified and any corrective actions taken. All items are fully covered and protected. Any exposition of packages that are not being covered by stretch films can lead to potential damage of the items depending on the transportation process.

Following these steps can ensure that stretch films are used effectively to protect items during transportation or storage, minimizing the risk of damage and ensuring that items arrive at their destination in good condition.
